Phuket Beach Festival Invites Surfers to Kata Beach for International Surfing Competition from 23-28 August

12 August 2022, Phuket-Thailand:  The Thailand Surfing Federation and Southeast Asia Surfing Association are proud to announce the 2022 Phuket Beach Festival International Surfing Competition, which will take place in Kata Beach, Phuket from August 23rd to 28th and offers both shortboard and longboard men’s and women’s divisions of competition in addition to live music, DJ’s, art, food, and workshops as part of this “Welcome Back to Thailand” event.

In 2009, Kata Beach was the host of the final competition in the inaugural Quiksilver Thailand Surf Series, a 3-stop series that was the first international surfing competition sponsored by a worldwide surfing brand in Thailand.  The Series was also the first ASC sanctioned competition series in Thailand, and with the media distribution during and post event it showed the world that there was indeed surfing in Thailand!

Over 100 surfers from countries including Australia, Japan, France, South Africa, Indonesia, Hawaii, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore and of course Thailand participated in that 2009 event, with Kata Beach’s own Annissa Flynn taking out both the Women’s and Junior’s Series Championship title, and Jamie Smith (Kata Beach) taking the event win in Shortboards and the Men’s Longboard Series title, so this prime Phuket beach already boasts a rich surfing tradition.

Invitations have already been sent to many of Asia’s surfing communities, so the Phuket Beach Festival’s Surfing Competition is certain to be well-attended.  The surf season in Phuket runs from June through September, with waves ranging from small and glassy to big and stormy, and the water is always beautiful and warm with white sandy beaches, great food, great culture and friendly locals to make the experience exceptional.

This surfing competition is open to all and there is no entry free, you just need to register to sign up!
