ชิงแชมป์โลก Longboard กลับมาแข่งขันอีกครั้งในปี 2023

สหพันธ์กีฬากระดานโต้คลื่นนานาชาติ หรือ ISA ประกาศเช้าวันนี้ว่า การแข่งขัน ISA World Longboard Championship กลับมาแข่งขันกันอีกครั้ง ณ Surf City ประเทศ El Salvador ในระหว่างวันที่ 7-13 พฤษภาคม 2565 ซึ่งการแข่งขันในครั้งนี้จะเป็นการแข่งขันแย่งโควต้าเข้าร่วมการแข่งขัน ANOC World Beach Games ที่บาหลี อินโดนีเซีย ในปีนี้

การแข่งขันชิงแชมป์โลก Longboard จัดขึ้นล่าสุดเมื่อปี 2019 ณ ประเทศฝรั่งเศส ซึ่งมี 32 ชาติเข้าร่วม จากนั้นได้หยุดการจัดมาเนื่องจากสถานการณ์การระบาดของโควิด-19 ซึ่งในการแข่งขันครั้งนี้นอกจากจะเป็นการแย่งโควต้าเข้าแข่ง ANOC World Beach Games แล้ว ยังเป็นการแข่งขันควอลิฟาย ในรายการ Santiago 2023 Pan Am Games & 2023  ทั้งนี้ ISA แจ้งว่าจะทำการผลักดันในมีการแข่งขัน Longboard ในกีฬามหกรรมโอลิมปิก LA 2028 อีกด้วย

The International Surfing Association (ISA) is thrilled to announce the return of the ISA World Longboard Championship (WLC), taking place in Surf City El Salvador May 7-13, 2023.

Last held in Biarritz, France in 2019 with a record 103 surfers from 32 nations, the world championship promises to be extremely exciting with El Salvador’s world famous El Sunzal point an ideal destination for longboard surfing.

Once again proving their strong commitment to establishing El Salvador as a premier, global surfing destination, President Nayib Bukele and the Salvadoran government have extended their welcome to this important discipline in the ISA World Surfing Championship series.

Surf City El Salvador has now hosted four ISA Major Events in the past five years including the 2019 World SUP and Paddleboard World Championship, followed by the 2021 ISA World Surfing Games and the 2022 ISA World Junior Surfing Championship.

The second qualifying event for shortboard surfing in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, the 2023 Surf City El Salvador ISA World Surfing Games, will also follow the WLC in Surf City El Salvador later in May.

The 2019 WLC was dominated by Team France, who won the Team World Championship Trophy. France’s Alice Lemoigne and Justine Dupont won gold and silver medals respectively in the Women’s division, while brothers Antoine and Edouard Delpero took home the silver and bronze medals in the Men’s. Peru’s Benoit ‘Piccolo’ Clemente won the Men’s gold medal.

Longboard was first held as an ISA medal division at the 1988 ISA World Surfing Championship (now the ISA World Surfing Games) in Puerto Rico. The discipline continued as part of the ISA World Surfing Games until 2013, when it was held as a stand-alone event for the first-time in Huanchaco, Peru.

“Already one of the ISA’s most exciting and important World Championships, this Longboard has the added value of being a qualifying event for athletes from the Americas for the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games, as well as the ANOC World Beach Games this August in Bali.

“El Salvador’s incredibly long and fabulous waves are perfectly suited for the performance, style and grace found in longboarding. The ISA is so excited to continue to solidify our strong connection with Surf City El Salvador and welcome the world’s best longboarders to experience the beauty of its coastline and the wonderful hospitality of its people.
